Horseradish

Fresh horseradish has a fiery mustard taste hiding beneath its mild-mannered parsnip shape. Horseradish is usually a condiment, but you can cook with it too. Chop finely to wake up sauces, soups, or dressings. Or just grate it, mix it with dill and mayonnaise, and spread it on your roast beef sandwich. Once you've tried fresh, you'll never go back to the jar.
