Celebrate Earth Month With These Environmentally-Conscious Products
At FreshDirect, we believe you should be able to make choices that support the health of the environment. That’s why we work directly with farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and creators who are committed to doing things right. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the people and products paving the way to a more sustainable future. Read on to learn about a few of our partners who are working to combat waste, reduce their carbon footprint, and do what’s best for the planet.
Regenerative Meat & Poultry Agriculture
When it comes to meat, we make a point of sourcing from farms and farmers that practice regenerative agriculture. That means they aim to contribute to the environment in a way that will counter the effects of climate change. Whenever we partner with a meat supplier, we get to know the farmers, build supply chains, set high standards, and verify that those standards are being met. And since we know exactly where our meat is coming from, we can trust how it is being raised. Learn more >>

Sustainable Seafood
When it comes to seafood, we support farms that prioritize the health of the environment first and foremost and raise fish that have no physical need for antibiotics or pesticides. These include partners like Matorka, whose land-based farm in Iceland is powered by glacial waters, ensuring a carbon-neutral footprint. Or Nireus in Greece, who by mastering the proper care of the fish they raise, have been able to preserve the natural landscape and minimize their impact on the surrounding waters. For the wild-caught fish that we source, we work only with fisheries that work to ensure that native populations can be sustained for generations to come, such as our Alaska salmon and Icelandic cod and haddock partners. Upcycled Foods
Upcycling means taking unused or discarded foods and transforming them into a new product that both adds value and reduces waste. We’re thrilled to partner with several brands that use upcycling to prove that food can not only taste good, but do good too. Additionally, our in-house kitchens use surplus items from our inventory to make a number of our prepared foods, like overripe bananas for banana bread and fillet trimmings for our salmon cakes.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
You can get tough on dirt and be kind to the earth too! Cleaners made with natural ingredients can help you freshen things up without any of the chemicals that are harmful for the environment or living beings.
