Love Local: Long Island Partners On FreshDirect
It’s no secret that Long Island is a food-lover’s paradise,
home to farms, fisheries, and artisan goods makers in numbers dizzying for such a narrow stretch of land. Small businesses reign here, and at FreshDirect, we’ve cultivated personal relationships with many local producers who bring us their very best.
On principle, we believe in investing in local growers and makers because this not only contributes to a more sustainable food system and upholds independent businesses, but also because food simply tastes better when it’s fresh and direct from the farm or the kitchen. We’re lucky to be situated near some of the most bountiful land in the country and in a city known for fostering brilliant culinary innovators. Connecting our customers to this network and to the sources of the food they eat is embedded within our mission—we want everyone to understand that local terroir is a real thing.

Deer Run Farms
Deer Run Farms is a family-run farm in Brookhaven, Long Island that grows some of the most luscious greens we’ve ever tasted. We’re on a first-name basis with farmer and owner Bob Nolan, and thrilled to help support their farm by selling their lettuce, spinach, cabbage, and kale directly to you.
Fox Hollow Farms
Nestled quietly in the North Fork of Long Island, Fox Hollow Farm stretches over 250 acres of serene countryside. This land has been farmed since the mid-1800s, and the rich and fertile soil produces some of the most delicious fruits and vegetables you’ll find.
Great Gun Shellfish
Great Gun Shellfish is raising some of Long Island’s best-tasting oysters, which have a sharp brine up front that leads to a sweet, buttery finish. Working with marine scientists from Stony Brook University, Great Gun is at the forefront of responsible oyster farming, contributing greatly to the sustainability and health of the waters along the Fire Island National Seashore.
What started in 2012 as a basement brewing operation among longtime friends has grown to embody the spirit of Montauk.
