12 Days of Cookies: Chocolate Chip Oreo Christmas Mashup Cookies From Skinny Pig NYC

For the sixth day of 12 days of cookies, we’re going overboard on all the goodies with these genius Chocolate Chip Oreo Christmas Mashup Cookies from Dara of The Skinny Pig!

Mashup Christmas Cookies

Dara’s blog and Instagram chronicle her super-sized passion for creating and enjoying delicious food, so who better to weigh in on the best treats for the holidays? We’ll let her take it from here:

From Dara: I didn’t know what holiday cookies I wanted to make this year, but I knew I wanted it to be simple, tasty, and Oreo-related. Why? Because Oreos are delicious. Duh. Seriously: they’re easily one of my favorite cookies (from a grocery store anyway), and I thought why not mix it with my OTHER favorite cookie, chocolate chip? To make them Christmas-y, I added some teeny tiny red and green Christmas tree sprinkles on top before baking.

Chocolate Chip OREO Christmas Cookie Mashup

Makes about 30 cookies

What You’ll Need:
2 sticks (8 oz) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup crushed OREO cookies (see crushing guidelines below)
Christmas sprinkles (optional)

What to do:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

To crush the Oreos: Place Oreos in a large zip-close bag, pushing out as much air as possible before sealing it (you don’t want to pop the bag and have Oreo debris in your kitchen). Take a large, heavy spoon or a rolling pin and smash the Oreos into chunky pieces.

To make the cookies: In a stand mixer (or a large bowl with a hand mixer), add the butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and vanilla. Blend together until creamy and smooth.

Set the mixer to low speed and slowly add in the flour. Turn off the mixer and fold in Oreos and chocolate chips with a spatula or spoon.

Roll dough into small balls, about 2 tablespoons per cookie. Drop dough balls on an ungreased cookie sheet or sheets. Sprinkle each with sprinkles.

Bake cookies until golden brown, 12–14 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to let cool.
